This is an exceptional example of a first year C5 ZR-1 Corvette - so exceptional that it has won national awards. The ZR-1 model was a turning point, with a widened chassis and the first 32-valve V8 engine in any General Motors product. While production of the engine was handled by Mercury Marine, the engine design was assisted by Lotus Engineering, who also helped with improving handling and chassis development.
Just 6,939 ZR-1's were produced over five model years, and this could be the best example available anywhere. A winner of the NCRS Top Flight award, it is also registered as a Bloomington Gold Survivor, and a Bloomington Gold Benchmark. A project binder details the many upgrades, among them the Marc Haibeck 91 octane performance chip, ported top end, Stainless Works long tube headers and high flow cats, disabled CAGS, and fully opened secondaries - all resulting in 55 extra hp. Typical ZR-1 weak points have been addressed, including seat lumbar with the diaphragms replaced, functioning side bolsters, and fully operational headlamp motors with gears.
