We know there was some controversy for the water-cooled 996 at the time compared to all the air-cooled 911 predecessors, but over time these have appreciated in value for good reason. The platform itself is stout, and the Metzger engine is legendarily durable, capable of handling much more power and holding up very well as they age. The powerful engine does have more of an old-school character with a proper shove as the turbos ramp up to full boost, giving the car a more involved analog feel compared to newer versions, both thrilling and controllable.
